(лат. Prunus persica) – растение подрода Миндаль семейства Розовые.

Откуда произошло растение, достоверных данных нет. Во всяком случае, известно, что в природе Северного Китая произрастает персик Давида,
являющийся дикорастущей формой персика обыкновенного. В культуре дерево возделывается в теплых регионах, а чемпионом по промышленному выращиванию персиков является Китай.

В плодоношение персиковые деревья вступают через 2-4 года с момента посадки, длится период плодоношения 10-15 лет. Персик так же, как манго и апельсины, является одним из самых вкусных плодов с тончайшим ароматом и освежающим вкусом.

Он приходится родственником таким плодовым деревьям, как миндаль, от которого он отличается только плодами, абрикос, ирга, айва, арония, слива, рябина, боярышник, шиповник, кизильник, яблоня, груша и мушмула.
